God has hundreds of thousands of workers for ministry. You might ask, "Who am I? I’m just one tiny piece of God’s huge puzzle." But each of us is unique, and the "picture" of God’s mission in the world is incomplete until we deploy our distinctive S.H.A.P.E. in it.
Pastor Rick Warren at Saddleback Valley Community Church in Mission Viejo, CA, coined the acronym S.H.A.P.E. in his best selling book The Purpose Driven Church.
- Spiritual Gifts: Identify the gifts God has given me.
- Heart: Clarify what I really love to do.
- Abilities: Appreciate and apply the natural talents and vocational skills I have.
- Personality: Learn how my God-given temperament can best be used in ministry.
- Experience: Review my history to discover how God has prepared me for a unique ministry that only I can fulfill!
Before you begin, it’s important to remember that all testing instruments are less than perfect and depend wholly on honest and unbiased responses. It may be helpful to ask others who know you well to also reflect on your assessment results. Let this information also help you determine your S.H.A.P.E.
